Being Brave

“This photo is from 2015 in Queenstown during my first year of sobriety. I was 26 and had set a personal challenge of abstaining from alcohol for a year.

Lacking the confidence to commit to lifelong abstinence, I opted for one year at a time until I completed two.

The idea of never drinking again can be daunting but taking part in Dry January® is a great way to re-evaluate your relationship with alcohol.

For me, setting attainable goals was crucial - it not only helped me navigate uncomfortable conversations, but also build the confidence I needed.

It’s important to recognise that you have to start somewhere, and without that first year, 8 years wouldn’t be possible.”
