How Can I Stop Drinking?
Hey everyone, it’s Scott here. 👋🏻
We’ve received a few messages lately asking for tips on how to stop drinking. While we’re not a sober coaching platform, and all our sober journey’s are different, I wanted to share what has worked for me.
~Remember your ‘Why’. During those early days, my path to sobriety wasn’t always linear. Sometimes a hangover was a reminder of my biggest ‘why’.
~Practise saying no. It got easier over time. If someone disrespects your choice they might not be someone you need in your life long-term. Try not to take it personally.
~Explore your passions. I stopped drinking not because of what I did the night before, but because of what I was missing out on. Alcohol got in the way of what mattered, and sobriety gifted more time. Protect it fiercely.
~Read Sober Stories. Sharing my own sober story during lockdown led to the creation of Arclett. The impact of social media hit home when people reached out saying they got sober just from reading my story. It helps!
~Be intentional. Be mindful of what you consume, whether it’s people, social media, junk food. Sober living is about encouraging us to stay curious about a more fulfilled life, however that looks for you.
~Find a new community. It’s 2024. Run clubs, hiking groups, whatever aligns with your vibe, they’re all out there.
~LOW&NO. When I quit alcohol there was only Becks blue so I opt for soft drinks instead, but many find LOW&NO helpful for blending in.
~Become inspired. I needed someone to point to when I stopped drinking. That person was Jack Osbourne. He showed me that it was okay not to drink, and when people labelled sobriety boring, I’d point to all the cool stuff he was doing like the Sahara Marathon.
~Stay connected. There’s loads of sober content out there. If Arclett doesn’t resonate with you, there are many accounts that might.
~Embrace the trend. Sobriety is the top wellness trend of 2024. Alcohol is not an obligation, it’s a choice.
Lastly, it’s important to seek professional support if you need it. If you’re physically dependent on alcohol it’s important to consult your doctor immediately. Check our website for more support in the UK.
Stay curious.
