Liam - 934 days

“My sober story started with a hangover. I woke up after a few hours of broken sleep and decided to take 100 days off alcohol.
I would say my relationship with alcohol could be described as grey-area drinking (with some worrying habits creeping in) and so I thought the benefits of a break would be fairly modest.
It turned out to be the most life-changing decision I've ever made. I won't list all the benefits I experienced in those initial 100 days, but suffice to say that every aspect of my life improved immeasurably. That was me done with alcohol forever. Decision made.
2 and a half years on, the benefits have compounded, and I feel like I'm becoming the person I always wished I could be, behaviour and values are starting to match up on a very consistent basis.
I've achieved things in these 2 and a half years I'd never thought possible for me, personally and professionally. I've been to amazing places, done amazing things and I've experienced every second of it fully, with no blurred edges.
I'd say with confidence I've become a better husband, son, brother, friend and human.
Bad things still happen, of course, but there's a thread of peace and resilience that runs through my life now which makes everything easier to deal with.
I owe so, so much to sobriety, and I'd urge anyone who's curious about giving it a go to... Give it a go. It could be the best decision you ever make.”
