Lisa - 691 days

“My sister died suddenly on 3rd September 2020. That day changed my life. Reflecting on this time there has been many hurdles, consuming grief, anger, pain, loss of friendships and loosing myself. I recognised the need for change when alcohol made the situation worse. My initial steps to becoming sober were wobbly and uncertain, it required a change in circle, hobbies and huge mindset shifts. This was hard work. Dealing with the temptation of drowning my sorrows and the triggers of missing out consumed me in the early days. As time went by and another sober weekend passed I celebrated the tiny victories, a sober Saturday, a hike or walk in nature, a coffee with a good friend instead of choosing wine and slowly day by day, week by week it got easier. Today I am 691 days sober.”
