Kevin ~ 84 Days

“I began my sober journey on New Years’ Day 2023, after a particularly indulgent festive season. As a DJ and artist manager, the temptation to drink is ever-present, and not just accepted but actively encouraged. However I came to realise that my lifestyle had become unsustainable. Just because you can, it doesn’t mean that you should.

Over time, regular drinking began to impact all areas of my life, and made it more difficult to sustain positive habits around sleep, diet, fitness and self-care practices. Ultimately, my habitual drinking precipitated a cascade of negative knock-on effects, leading to worsening mental health.

6:00pm on Sunday 26th March 2023 will mark 2000 hours alcohol free. I previously managed to abstain for 3 months in early 2021, but this time feels different. The compounding positive effects on my life are so clear at this point.

Most significantly, my relationships have improved drastically; both with others and with myself. I feel more confident in my decision every day, and my fortitude grows stronger each time I flex that muscle by saying “no, thank you”.

My life feels like its expanding day by day, and I have an excitement for the future that I haven’t felt since I was a child. It’s early days, and I’m trying to stay humble and grateful. But I’m committed to this new path, and I can’t wait to see where it takes me.”
