“My sober journey hasn’t been straightforward, but it’s one I wouldn’t change. I first became sober curious when my partner fell pregnant. I wanted to be in the best place possible to step into fatherhood. I took a few months off drinking, and to my surprise, I loved it. I felt clearer, more present, and genuinely happier.
After my baby boy was born, I quickly realised drinking and parenthood didn’t go hand in hand, so I had another period of stopping for around nine months. Those months were some of the most rewarding, filled with precious moments I was fully present for. But then came the buzz of getting engaged and celebrating my 30th birthday. I found myself drinking again. At first, it was fun and exciting, but before long, old habits started creeping back.
Now, I’m back on my journey, I’m almost two months in and I feel great ~ clearer-headed, more energised, and truly aligned with the life I want to live. I’m lucky to have a supportive group of friends and family who understand my choices and cheer me on. Sobriety isn’t about missing out. For me, it’s about showing up ~ for my son, my partner, and myself. And while the path hasn’t been perfect, every step has brought me closer to the life I want to live.”
