“Saying no to alcohol was saying yes to everything else.

Living life in excess was my norm. When a close loved one had a life-changing incident, I spiralled out of control. Unfortunately, it took hitting rock bottom to realise I was worth more than the hand I was dealing myself.

When I decided to get sober, it wasn’t just about quitting the drink and drugs, it was about creating space for the life I truly wanted. I didn’t realise it at the time, but that one decision changed everything.

Sobriety gave me clarity, energy, and a drive I’d never had before. I went from being 19 and a half stone, unemployed, and unmotivated, to setting goals and smashing them. I lost 7 stone, hit fitness milestones I’d once thought were impossible, and even ran a charity half marathon for the first time. The more I focused on improving myself, the more my confidence grew.

For years, I felt uncomfortable in my own skin. I think I was 25 when I first took my top off at a pool. Sobriety helped me change that. It’s not just about looking better, it’s about feeling better ~ inside and out. I’ve built a career I’m proud of, formed genuine relationships, and for the first time, I truly love myself.

My advice? Trust the process and stay consistent. Whether it’s walking more, setting small goals, or saying no to one drink, every choice adds up. Sobriety isn’t about what you leave behind, it’s about what you gain. My life truly started when I went sober.

As of today, I am 1,505 days sober.”
